Introduction
"I wish to create a download button". Maybe "asset collection" or search spaces isn't the best way to deliver this file and you would like to create a simple download button for it instead.
Example:
- I am showing a campaign with a list of assets, but I would like to deliver a zip file containing the InDesign project for agencies to download.
- I am creating a typography guide and would like to let users download the font.
- I have a length of text and would like to sneak in a file for download without disrupting the text too much.
(In this example we have a logo section and I wish to enable users to download the whole package instead of selecting one and one)
Requirements
- Edit rights on the page you wish to publish the file.
- A file. (either a single file OR a zip / package containing all files in the download)
- Access to a Place archive to store the file.
Steps:
1. Upload your file to a Place archive.
2. Go to the Point page where you wish to create the button and go into "Edit" mode
3. Build the page
Build the page as you would any other. Follow the general Point guide for how to edit and build pages.
4. Create a text box
The button is created inside a "text box". You can use existing text boxes or you can create a new one, all depending on where it fits best or how you would like your design.
5. Open the button editor
Clear the placeholder contents from the text box and put in the text you wish to be displayed on your button. Mark the text and click the "link" button in the above editor panel.
Button editor
This window contains all settings you need to create a button for:
- Download files
- Link to external sources (example: your intranet)
- Link to internal areas (example: typography refers to text color, you can then link to the color section of your guidelines)
6. Pick the file for download
Click "Place"
This will open Place archives you have access to. Find the archive where you stored your file and select it. Once the file is selected, the "url" field will fill in automatically.
7. Change the settings for the button
"Set download
Makes the file downloadable.
Set a "button style"
This will choose the appropriate style for your button. No style will make the text a "link", but no button.
Click "insert" to create the button. It should now appear on the page with the appropriate styling and behavior.
Don't forget to save the page.
