Approval projects live in two hierarchies in Plan. Projects in the Central hierarchy belong to the whole organization. Projects in the Local hierarchy are tied to one or more units, such as a country and its cities, so one project can serve a whole branch of the organization instead of one project per location. This article shows how to create a local project and choose its units.
Create a project in the Local hierarchy
Click the three dots beside Local hierarchy in the left panel. Under Create Project, choose the kind of project you need, for example Place for assets from your Place library or Produce for documents made from Produce templates. The same menu has Hierarchy tree, which shows all units without creating anything.
The Create project dialog is the same as for a central project, with one extra required field at the bottom: Local unit. The other settings are explained in Creating an approval project in Plan.
Choose the units
Click Select local unit. The Local hierarchy dialog shows your units as a tree, with sub-units under their parent.
- Tick a parent unit to select it together with all of its sub-units. You can then untick individual sub-units you want to leave out.
- Tick a single sub-unit on its own to limit the project to that unit. Its sibling units are then greyed out, so a project stays within one branch of the tree.
- Untick the parent to clear the whole branch.
Click Save. The chosen units are listed under the Local unit field. Fill in the rest of the dialog and click Create project. As with any project, Plan then asks you to choose collaborators.
Where the project appears
The new project is filed under the top unit you selected, in the left panel under Local hierarchy, grouped by project type. The project page shows the unit under the project name.
