Introduction
The Sub-items widget allows users to display information about child items within a parent item’s detail view. Each row in the Sub-items table corresponds to a child item, while each column represents a specific element from those child items. With this widget, users are able to create a new child item directly from its parent item.
This widget is configured within the Template Builder. Similar to other elements, it can be added to layouts, and users can define which child item elements are displayed as columns in the table.
The Sub-items widget only lists direct child items, i.e., the items that are immediately one level below the parent item.
Sub-Items Type Settings
The Sub-items Type Settings section is available under the 'Settings' menu for users with the correct user privilege.
Sub-Items Type Overview
This overview provides a list of all created sub-item types, presented in a table with the following columns:
- Sub-item type name
- Template (associated template)
- Status (Active, Inactive, Removed)
- Created by
- Created on
Each row also has buttons for:
- Edit sub-items type
- Action menu (Deactivate, Duplicate, Remove)
For removed types, a Delete action is available to completely erase the sub-item type from the interface.
Creating a New Sub-Items Type
Users can create a new sub-item type using the New Sub-items Type button. Basic settings include:
- Sub-item type name (used as the name for the sub-items element).
- Template selection (the template provides shared elements for building the sub-item type).
The Table View builder allows users to configure a table for displaying sub-items. Key configuration steps include:
- Add element: Select elements (columns) from the shared elements to be displayed in the table.
- Default sort element: Define the default sorting column.
- Columns overview: Review and configure column names, IDs, and whether they are editable.
- Table style: Choose between fitting columns to the screen or allowing side-scrolling.
Sub-Items Widget in Template Builder
In the Template Builder, the Sub-items widget can be added to layouts like other elements. Users can configure the widget settings:
- Label name and Help text
- Access settings for different user roles
- Sub-items type selection (choose from existing sub-items types or create a new one)
Setting Up Sub-Item Creation in Template Builder
1. Configuring the Sub-Item Widget in Template Builder
To enable sub-item creation directly from the parent item:
- Access Template Settings: Open Template Builder and locate the Sub-Item Widget.
- Set the Sub-Item Creation Method: Choose whether sub-items will be created with or without opening the sub-item detail view.
2. Options for Creating Sub-Items
Option 1: Sub-Item Creation Without Opening Sub-Item Detail
In this mode, users can create sub-items directly in the parent item view by entering only mandatory information.
- Requirements: For this option to work, all mandatory fields for the sub-item must be displayed within the sub-item widget (either as columns in a table or fields in a grid).
- How It Works:
- From the parent item’s sub-item widget, enter the required details for the new sub-item.
- Save the new sub-item directly in the parent item view.
- Later, you can open the sub-item to add non-mandatory details as needed.
Note: If all mandatory elements are not included in the sub-item widget, you will be unable to save the widget in Template Builder.
Option 2: Sub-Item Creation With Opening Sub-Item Detail
This option opens the full sub-item detail view when creating a sub-item, allowing users to complete mandatory information in a dedicated workspace.
- How It Works:
- From the sub-item widget within the parent item, select the option to create a new sub-item.
- The sub-item detail view will open, requiring you to fill in all mandatory elements.
- Once the sub-item is saved, the system will return you to the parent item view, where the newly created sub-item is now linked.
