Access Levels for User Groups
There are three permission levels available for folders:
- No Access: The user group cannot see or access the folder or its contents.
- View Access: The user group can view the folder, see all its assets, and download/share these assets.
- Manage Access: The user group can view, edit, and manage all folder contents, including creating and editing the folder itself.
Subfolder Inheritance
When you create a new subfolder, it will automatically inherit the access permissions of its parent folder. This streamlines workflows by applying the same access model throughout a folder tree.
However, you can override this inheritance at any time. If a subfolder requires different access levels—for example, if it should only be visible to a specific team—you can customize its permissions independently.
Folder Access Without Asset Access (Passthrough Permissions)
In some cases, users may be able to see a folder without accessing the assets inside it. This is known as passthrough access.
For example, a user may need to navigate through a folder structure (e.g. in the upload or move dialog) but not have permission to open or interact with the files inside. In these cases:
- The folder will be visible in navigation, upload, and move dialogs
- The user will not be able to view, download, or interact with the assets unless they have been granted explicit access
This model is particularly useful for clients who want to maintain a clear folder structure while protecting sensitive content or applying more granular asset-level access control.
