Locking elements and controls in a Produce template

Locking lets you decide what content creators can change in documents made from a template. You set it up in the template editor, element by element.

You need admin access to the template. Locking is not available in every template. If you don't see Edit locking in the editor, the template doesn't support it.

Open the locking modes

1. In Produce, open the template's Settings, go to Design and click Customize. The template opens in the editor.

2. Click Edit locking in the menu on the right and choose a mode:

   • Edit as content creator: shows the template the way users see it, so you can check your locks.
   • Edit as template designer: the normal editing mode, selected when the editor opens.
   • Edit locking: lets you lock and unlock elements and controls.

   

Lock an element

In Edit locking mode, every element on the page has a lock icon. Green means unlocked, red means locked.

1. Click the lock icon of the element. It turns red and the element's settings open on the right.
2. Under Permissions, choose what to lock. Lock element is on, and below it you can switch Lock move, Lock resize and Lock removal on or off. Text elements also have Lock text content.
   

For example, with Lock text content on, content creators can't change the text. They can still format it, and the editor tells them so.

Lock controls in the settings panel

In Edit locking mode, the controls on the right have their own lock icons. The lock on the edge of a box locks every control in that box at once. Locked controls are hidden from content creators.

Check your locks

Choose Edit as content creator to see the template the way users will. When you are happy, click Save.
