Introduction
The Video Asset Approvals feature is valuable when users need to collaborate on video content approvals across teams or departments. For instance, a marketing team can upload a campaign video to Place and initiate a review process that aligns with the approval workflow for images, ensuring that all media assets meet brand standards before publication.
This article will guide you through setting up the Video Asset Approval feature, understanding its settings, and using it to enhance your team’s workflow.
Note: This feature is only available for saved videos that are uploaded to Plan Approvals. Sending videos directly from Produce to Plan Approvals without uploading the video file is not yet possible.
Requirements
You need to have Plan Approvals to access this feature.
Activating the feature
For new Place approval projects, video approvals are automatically enabled. This feature allows uploaded video assets to be added to approval workflows seamlessly.
- Compatibility: Video approvals work with both newly created and existing Place projects, so you can continue using prior projects without any additional setup.
- No Additional Setup Required: Once the Place projects are set up, videos can be integrated into the approval loop without needing further configuration.
Using the feature
To approve videos, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Plan Approvals
- First, an initiatior needs to upload a video file for approval (check this article to see which filetypes we support for upload)
- As soon as the video has been uploaded into Plan Approvals, a Reviewer will be notified
- The reviewer will now be able to approve the video file
Options for reviewing videos
Review specific timestamps/lengths
Video approval enables reviewers to select specific timestamps or sections of the video to add comments, ensuring the initiator is notified and can pinpoint exactly which part of the video is being referenced.
Use the Add time button right above the commenting box to use this feature.
Pinpoint an area within the video
Video approval allows the reviewer to select a specific part of the video to add a comment, making it easy for the initiator to see what need needs to be fixed in the video.
Use the Pin button as seen in the screenshot below to use this feature.
Video File Type Display in Project Overview
To make asset management more efficient, a new "Type" column in the approval project details displays the type of each file, such as Image, Vector, Document, or Video. This overview allows users to see at a glance what types of files are under review.
-
Supported File Types:
- Image: jpg, png, webp
- Vector: pdf, svg
- Document: pptx, docx
- Video: avi, mov, mpeg
- Column Display: The “Type” column shows only one of these main categories, simplifying asset identification.

Video Player and Annotations
The video review functionality includes a robust video player and annotation tools that support high-quality video playback, comments, and annotations.
- Annotations and Comments: Add comments on specific frames or time ranges within the video. Annotations can pinpoint exact timestamps or sections within the video.
- Standard Player Controls: Users can start, pause, and stop videos or use the slider to manually navigate through the video.
- Time-Specific Annotations: Annotations can be linked to specific times, allowing reviewers to jump directly to relevant sections.
Video Quality Display
All videos display in the highest available resolution to ensure accurate review, with decompression allowing for quality sound and image playback.
Managing Requests for Changes
If changes to a video are required, users can update the asset’s approval status, following the same approval change methods used for static images.
Version Control for Video Assets
When new versions of a video asset are uploaded, users can easily switch between versions. This is especially helpful for tracking edits and ensuring that feedback is incorporated across all versions.
