Which file types are accepted for upload in Place?

Supported files

In this digital age, managing vast amounts of data is essential. Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems offer a solution to this problem, and supporting various file types is crucial. In this article, we will explore the different file types supported in Place. All files listed below can be transcoded.

Keep in mind, while most file types are supported, not all files will be able to generate a preview/thumbnail. For those files, you can always add a thumbnail manually. See this article to learn how to do this. 

Images

A (raster) image is a digital image that is made up of pixels, which are small squares of colour. The quality of a raster image is determined by its resolution, which is the number of pixels per inch. Unlike vector images, raster images cannot be scaled up without losing quality because the pixels become more visible as the image is enlarged. Raster images are commonly used for photographs and other complex images that do not require scaling or resizing.

Video

A video file is a digital file that contains a sequence of images, or frames, that are played back in rapid succession to create the illusion of motion. Video files can be stored in a variety of formats, such as MP4, AVI, and MOV, and can be played back on various devices such as computers, smartphones, and televisions.

Vector formats

A vector image is a type of digital graphic that is created using mathematical equations and geometric shapes such as lines, curves, and points. Unlike raster images, which are made up of pixels, vector images can be scaled up or down without losing quality. This makes vector images ideal for use in logos, icons, and other graphics that need to be resized or printed at different sizes.

Place can create a thumbnail of the first content/page of the following file types:

Place can play the following formats:

Other

Place supports the following formats:

Unsupported files

There is a blacklist for filetypes that’s prevented from being uploaded to Place due to security:
