Comparing two versions of the same material

When material comes back with a fix, the useful question is what actually changed. Plan can show two versions together so you can see it rather than remember it.

When the controls appear

The comparison controls sit above the preview on the review screen, and they only exist once the material has at least two versions. On a first version there is nothing to compare and nothing is shown, which is why you may not have noticed them before.

Compare two versions

1. Open the material from the project list.
2. Pick a comparison mode from the controls above the preview.
3. Use the two version selectors beside them to choose which version goes on each side. They are not fixed to the first and the latest.

The four modes:

• Single. One version at a time, the normal review view.
• Vertical split. The two versions side by side, with a slider you drag left and right.
• Horizontal split. The same, one above the other.
• Overlay. One version laid directly on top of the other, for spotting small shifts.

If Overlay is not available

Overlay needs both versions to be the same size. If they are not, Plan tells you so instead of showing a misleading picture:

Overlay comparison unavailable. Overlay comparison is only available for versions with the same dimensions.

Use one of the split views instead, or ask the initiator for a version at the original dimensions if the size change was not intended.

Comments while comparing

Comments stay visible in comparison view, each on the version it was made on, with its pin in place. That is what makes the comparison worth doing: you can read what was asked for on the old version while looking at the new one, and mark each point resolved as you check it off.
