In Produce templates, locking mechanisms are primarily used by Template Designers (Admins) to control how Content Creators (End Users) interact with elements, ensuring brand consistency and data integrity.
The following locking mechanisms are available:
1. Element & Design Locking
For templates designers can (if it's enabled in the template config. or if it is a design imported template) lock physical properties of elements:
Position & Size: Prevents users from moving or resizing shapes, text boxes, or images.
Color: Lock specific fill- and stroke colors for shapes and backgrounds.
Visibility: Locks whether an element is shown or hidden.
Text Format Locking: Admins can lock or unlock specific paragraph styles and color options for end users. They may also lock an entire text element so it is not possible to change the text.
Font Size Locking: Designers can set a Min, Max, and Step (increment) for font sizes.
Banner Transition Locking: In banner templates, transitions between frames can be locked to maintain the intended animation flow.
2. Variable Locking
Template Designers have granular control over how variables are handled by content creators:
Editable: Determines if a user can change the variable's value at all.
Required: If editable, this forces the user to provide a value before they can generate output (e.g., high-res PDFs).
Change Required: Forces the user to update the existing placeholder content (e.g., replacing "555-5555" with a real number).
Logic Locking: Designers can restrict access to logic dropdowns and options within the template.
3. Asset & Category Locking
These mechanisms restrict which assets can be used in specific template elements:
Media Source Locking: A "Lock media to Place configuration" setting allows admins to select exactly which asset sources are available for a specific template.
Archive Locking: Images can be locked to a specific archive within the DAM (Place), ensuring users only select from approved sources.
Asset Category Locking: If an Archive Locking is made, admins can also choose specific categories from which users must select assets. This can be configured as an AND or OR operation (e.g., an asset must belong to all selected categories or at least one).
