The following features have been released to increase the usability further for the usage of Variables.
We’ve given Template Designers more granular control over how Content Creators interact with variables. You can now set three specific permissions to ensure data integrity:
Editable: Determines if the Content Creator is allowed to change the value of a variable at all.
Required: If a field is editable, this setting dictates whether it can be left empty. If "Required" is active, the creator must provide a value before they can generate print materials (like high-res PDFs).
Change Required: If the field is editable, this forces the creator to update the existing content. This is perfect for ensuring they replace placeholder text—like "555-5555"—with actual, valid information.
Where to apply these controls:
Standalone Variables: For any variable not linked to an external data source.
Data-Linked Fields: For specific columns or fields within a data source (such as a column in a dataset or a "First Name" field in a User profile).
We have also updated Vertical Stacking groups to support partial vertical overlap. Previously, you could only create a stacking group if every element was positioned strictly beneath the one above it. Now, elements can overlap slightly while still maintaining their stacking logic.
This is especially useful for text elements when you want to reduce vertical distance—for example, allowing the descender of a top text element to overlap with the ascender of the element below it.
