Dynamic layouts
Template Designers can now build multiple versions (new pages/”layouts”) of a single-page template.
Sometimes the content creator needs a specific new layout size, and it can be down to a specific millimeter precision as e.g. newspapers charge more if the document would be one millimeter too wide for example. The option to specify specific sizing has been available via Pro templates so far, and with this release it is also available for InDesign templates. This makes the offering and usage of InDesign templates even more useful and flexible.
We have added two new settings to the InDesign plugin (see at the bottom of the dialog):
Option: “Enable dynamic layouts"
When enabled, Template Designers can build multiple versions (new pages/”layouts”) of a single-page template.
The Workflow: If your original InDesign file is an A5 landscape, the Template designer can:
Select "New Layout" from the menu.
Choose a different page size (e.g., A5 portrait) and adjust the width and height to specific measurements.
Automatically generate a new page/layout where elements are roughly positioned for the new dimensions.
Fine-tune the design by moving or resizing elements to perfection.
Option: "Allow content creators to define dynamic layouts."
When enabled, the Content Creator (the person creating a document from the template) can make minor size adjustments before generating their document.
The Workflow:
Selection: A window pops up asking the user to pick a starting layout (e.g., A5 Landscape vs. A5 Portrait).
Adjustment: Users can then fine-tune the dimensions within these safe limits:
Overall Aspect Ratio: Up to a 10% change is allowed.
Horizontal Flexibility: We allow a larger margin of 20–25% if the adjustment is made along the width (X-axis).
Vertical Constraint: Changes to the height (Y-axis) are more strictly limited to prevent layout distortion. For example, resizing from 100 x 100 to 120 x 100 is permitted, but a similar stretch on the vertical axis is not.
Prefix and suffix for variable references in text elements
Gives the template designers the ability to add prefix and suffix to variable references within text elements. This feature is ensuring that usage of prefix and suffix is dynamic, i.e. when it is added but no variable value is present the prefix and/or suffix are not shown either.
A new button is attached to the variable input textfield in the side palette when template designers are focusing on a text field with variable references. This button opens up a new modal which lets the user enter the prefix and suffix with a preview in a label.
Produce template detail + Point workflow improvement
We have released some changes to make usage of Produce functionality used and accessed via Point template widget more user friendly, and at the same time also improved the Produce Launcher Template detail view. These are the included changes:
Get navigated to the document detail view once a new document has been created and closed from Editor.
Adding link to Template settings from the iframe (used in Point).
Changing the order of Document tab to be placed first.
Adding quick actions of "Copy link", "Archive" & "Delete" to the documents in the Documents tab of Template details iframe.
Enable the user to click on the entire line of the Document to navigate to it, instead of just the button option.
